In 2021, Circonus released its powerful, mergeable, highly-efficient histogram technology to the open source community as OpenHistogram. Prior to the announcement, I developed both the name and branding for OpenHistogram, in addition to the microsite (featured separately).
For the icon, I sought to succinctly symbolize a histogram, which is a bar graph-like representation of the distribution of numerical data. I then encompassed this symbol with an “O” indicative of OpenHistogram. To complement the icon, I constructed the wordmark from a modern sans-serif, Caros Bold. Caros felt distinctively appropriate as it includes clean, geometric letter forms that perfectly capture the simplicity of the icon.
The palette for the OpenHistogram logo contains bright, optimistic colors that work well on both dark and light background colors. Below, I have depicted how the full logo and lone icon might be leveraged on clothing and assorted products. I have also included the full color palette for OpenHistogram.
Following development of the logo and branding, I produced the OpenHistogram microsite.
